History
In 2001, a group of dynamic women got together and formed the Pictou
County Progress Club, a chapter of the Canadian Progress Club. Although
a chapter of the national body, our Club is a separate entity and
sponsors local charities in addition to the Canadian Progress Charitable
Foundation.
Our Club’s charitable donations have exceeded $ $115,000 so far, and
have been to the Canadian Special Olympics, Big Brothers Big Sisters
In-School Mentoring Program, Shepherd’s Lunch Room, Pictou County Early
Intervention, Pictou County Help Line , The Pictou County Christmas
Fund, the Pictou County Fuel Fund and Kids First.
All of our club members participate in hands-on community service
throughout the year. Each club is required to contribute 300 hours of
community service per year. Our efforts have helped the New Glasgow
Jubilee, the Race on the River Dragon Boat Festival, Special Olympics ,
the Shepherd’s Lunch Room, the Trenton Home & School Association, Go
Green Get Clean, Coats for Kids and “Best Buddies” to name a few.

high ideals, devoted to the advancement of the best interests of the
Community in which that club is located |
 |
To aid and assist those in need |

great and prosperous peoples of the world |
About our Events
The Chair Affair
The Progress Chair Affair was our first fundraising event for five years
and received a great deal of exposure in the community. This event
involved an auction of Adirondack chairs painted by local artists and
auctioned during an evening that included comedy entertainment. It was
the only event of its kind in this area. It was a tremendous success and
all of our members played an important role in producing this great
evening.
Girls’ Night Out
In the fall of 2006, the club hosted Girls’ Night Out, an evening of fun
and entertainment exclusively for women. The event is an opportunity for
women to dance, shop, and have fun with girlfriends, while celebrating
everything fabulous about being female. The night has been a tremendous
success in previous years. Watch for it in the fall of 2009!
What is the Canadian Progress Club?
The Canadian Progress Club was established over 80 years ago and now has
more than 40 clubs from coast to coast. Through strong community
involvement and dedication to serve those in need, our members have
demonstrated Canadian pride by leadership and example. Progress is
exclusively Canadian in concept and development and is proud to raise
over $2,000,000 annually for numerous charities.
Our Mission
Enhancing the quality of life of all Canadians, through community
service, in the spirit of fellowship.
